Called to be servants and stewards

What comes to mind when you hear the words, “servant” or “steward”?

interestingly these are the two words Paul chooses to use in 1 Corinthians 4vs1, to describe, and call the believers attention to the true roll and responsibility of the Apostles. If you remember the Corinthians had been elevating and following their favourite preachers, they were starting to follow the men and not their message. God’s design and plan for those He called to be apostles was specific to the building up of His church. Those that have been called to the roll of shepherding have a mandate from our Lord which needs to be fulfilled with the right attitude of humility as they give themselves to being servants and stewards of what God has entrusted to them to proclaim and teach. We are reminded of what Paul had to say to the Ephesians;

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head–Christ– 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”

Ephesians 4vs11-16

Lord willing this Sunday we will continue to look a little closer at what God has in mind for those that He calls to shepherd His church.
