Being An Authentic Disciple

Dear Members and Friends of IBCZ,

What will be the legacy of your life and example among those you leave behind? The people around you do influence you, for better or worse. The converse is also true, for better or worse, you in turn will affect the people around you. None of us is an island.

Our first priority in following Jesus is the final word that He gave before leaving earth: “19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19, 20)

The reality is that we have always been involved in disciple-making, even from birth, but not always disciple-making for Jesus. The question is: Who are you following? And how are you influencing the people who are watching you?

Let me illustrate something that helps us understand disciple making. No matter where you are in the world, if you see a brood of ducklings following their mother, it is always the same. Mother duck leads and ducklings follow all in a row. If you look more closely you will see that each duckling is playing two roles at exactly the same time. Each duckling is a follower because it is following the mother duck or another duckling. At exactly the same time each little duckling is a leader, in front of the duck or ducklings right behind it. So, is the duckling a follower or a leader? It’s both. That’s how ducks that are out for a walk teach us what making disciples is all about.

The question I leave you with, is the same I am asking myself, “Are you making disciples who make disciples?” That is the question, because that as followers of Jesus Christ, is our mission. However, what kind of disciples are you making? We will learn from God’s Word this Sunday about “Being an authentic disciple.”

Join us for Corporate Prayer at 10 am on Sunday (Transport from Rüschlikon Station at 09:50) and then the Worship Service at 10:30 am. Fellowship and refreshments after the service.

Your friend and pastor,

Bruce
