Dear Members and Friends of IBCZ,
Last Sunday we concluded our series on the Attributes of God with “The Sovereignty of God.” The sovereignty of God refers to God’s power, authority, and ultimate rule over His creation. God’s sovereignty guarantees that His perfect will shall come to pass. Even though at times this world and even our lives seem to be full of chaos, God is still at work, directing everything toward its proper end.
However, this doesn’t mean that we are mere puppets in God’s hand. In His love and grace, God has given us the gift of moral freedom; we can make real choices with and for our lives. Yet God’s wisdom and power are so far beyond what we can comprehend that He can take all our freely-made choices, both good and bad, and weave them into His perfect plan for our lives.
And so, the sovereignty of God doesn’t mean we have no role to play, that we just wait idly for God to direct the events of our lives. No, we take what God has given us – the instruction of His Word, the example of Jesus, the leading of the Holy Spirit, the wise counsel of others, and we then seek to make wise and responsible decisions for our lives and our futures. But working through all that is the all-wise and perfectly loving God, who by His sovereignty brings about His good purposes for us.
So, let us rest and rejoice in the fact that God, in His perfect love, knowledge, wisdom, holiness, power, and faithfulness is sovereignly working in and through our lives to bring about His good and perfect will.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Bob
